The technology tools can be ones that you were introduced to through course work at Hamline University or ones that you are currently using or new ones that are available to you in your school setting. There is no set number of technology enhancements that are required for the assignment. The guiding principle is to select and provide a rationale for technology enhancements that improve the quality of student of learning. The unit will be designed using GOALS/OBJECTIVES This culminating project will allow you to synthesize and demonstrate what you have learned about Inquiry-based learning, constructivism, UbD, and technology tools in this course. DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS You will plan and create a curriculum unit with the following characteristics. ·Unit will foster inquiry in student learning. ·Have technology meaningfully integrated throughout, providing a rationale for use. ·Stretch yourself with the technology. Be innovative with the wealth of tools now available, free and online. ·Unit will include at least 3 to 5 lessons and/or activities (can be more) ·Each lesson will take at least one class period according to your school’s schedule ·The unit can be planned to take place over a period of days, weeks, months, or can be something the students work on all term/year. ·The unit must include an authentic assessment component for each lesson/activity in the unit. ·The UbD model is the lesson format used for this unit. ·Work on the assumption that this is something you will use with your students during this school year. CHECKLIST The following items must be turned in to your private folder in Blackboard (or turned in as completed in class).
¨UBD WORKSHEETS All UbD forms as assigned (you can create your own forms in a word processor without the formatting – the content is what matters to us, not the way the page appears). ¨UNIT LESSON PLANS Based on UbD lesson templates.
¨TECHNOLOGY RATIONALE For each technology tool used, provide a rationale for that choice. Why was a particular technology tool chosen? What learning objective is each tool helping to meet? How is the tool helping to meet that objective? ¨PERSONAL REFLECTION My most important learning/insight/piece of advice as a result of completing this assignment (several paragraphs). Note: This is a different reflection than the REFLECTION PAPER assignment listed in the assignments section of the course
This is the UbD Unit. The reflection paper to accompany it will follow shortly.
